Chemical structure of edrophoniumEdrophonium is a readily reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It prevents breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and acts mainly at a neuromuscular junction.

Clinical uses

Because its duration of action is single astir X proceedings, edrophonium is utilized to differentiate myasthenic crisis from cholinergic crisis. Around myasthenic crisis, in which the human is non breathe to create plenty neuromuscular stimulation, edrophonium will reduce a muscle weakness. Within the cholinergic crisis, in which the individual has overmuch neuromuscular stimulation, edrophonium will make the muscle weakness worse.
